Meet the Editors
Dr. Ravindra Nanda is Professor Emeritus, Former UConn Alumni Endowed Chair and Head of the Department of Craniofacial Sciences and Division of Orthodontics, University of Connecticut. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a member of various organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, European Orthodontic Society and Edward H. Angle Society. He has been active in orthodontic research in the area of biomechanics, clinical trials and acceleration of orthodontic treatment.
Dr. Nanda has given numerous lectures at national and international societies including Mershon Lecture at American Association of Orthodontics and Sheldon Friel Lecture at 2011 EOS Congress. He has authored with his colleagues more than 250 scientific papers and 8 text books. He has been recognized with various awards from numerous international orthodontic organizations.
Dr. Veerasathpurush (Sath) Allareddy is Professor, Brodie Craniofacial Endowed Chair, and Head of Department of Orthodontics at University of Illinois at Chicago. He serves as the Director of Specialty Node of the National Dental Practice Based Research Network. His areas of research excellence include: National Dental Practice Based Research Network, Artificial Intelligence and Clinical Outcomes Evaluation. He has published over 190 research articles in peer reviewed journals and presented over 250 posters at regional/national/international scientific meetings. He specializes in providing orthodontic care to those with Cleft and Craniofacial Anomalies.
Dr. Stella Chaushu is Professor and Chairperson of Department of Orthodontics, Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine, Jerusalem, Israel. She is the coordinator of three different clinical fields in the department: adult orthodontics, orthodontic treatment for impacted teeth and treatment of Special Needs children. Dr. Chaushu also has a PhD degree in immunology. Her basic science research focuses on the relationship between dentistry and immunology: the role of the immune system in periodontal disease and in orthodontic tooth movement.
The results of her clinical and research activities have been published in over 100 articles in international refereed journals and in 6 chapters in books. She received several competitive grants and awards, including the prestigious Dewel award, given for the highest-ranked clinical research published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and of Orthodontics in 2015.
Dr. Chaushu is a member of the Editorial Board of American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Associate Editor of Progress in Orthodontics and reviews manuscripts for many international journals. Invited speaker at the national orthodontic congresses of U.S.A., Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, Australia, Austria, Cyprus, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Italy, Romania, India, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Canada, Czech Republic. She presents lectures and courses internationally on the various aspects related to impacted teeth, the orthodontic-periodontic interface and the delivery of orthodontic treatment to special needs children.
Paola Cozza is Full Professor, Dean of the Dental School and head of the Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy. She graduated cum laude in Medicine (MD) and in Dentistry (DDS) at the University of Rome, La Sapienza, Italy, in 1986. In 1991, she received the degree of specialist in Orthodontics and since then she has been a clinical instructor in the program in Orthodontics. Prof Cozza has authored over 200 scientific articles in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Angle Orthodontist, European Journal of Orthodontics and European Journal of Pediatric Dentistry. She has written and contributed to 18 textbooks.
Prof Cozza sees patients in the faculty practice in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. She was President of the Italian Society of Orthodontics (SIDO) in 2017, and is a member of SIDO, Euripean Orthodontics Society (EOS), and World Federation of Orthodontics (WFO). Moreover, she is a member of the panel of referees of the following national and international journals: Dental Cadmos, Progress in Orthodontics, European Journal of Orthodontics, Angle Orthodontist and European Journal of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Toru Deguchi is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Division of Orthodontics at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He completed his dental training at the Aichi-Gakuin University and received PhD at the Okayama University, Japan. He also completed MSD in Orthodontics at the Indiana University. He has been focusing his clinical interests in the field of temporary anchorage devices (TADs) and clinical outcome studies. He has been also engaged in histomorphometric studies related to tooth movement and pain related topics. Dr. Deguchi is a Diplomate of American Board of Orthodontics and a member of the Midwest Angle Society.
Theodore Eliades is Professor and Director of the Clinic of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, as well as Director of Research, and Interim Director of the Institute of Oral Biology at the Center of Dental Medicine, University of Zurich. He graduated from the School of Dentistry, University of Athens, Greece, and completed his Orthodontic residency at the Ohio State University. He earned an MS from Ohio State, a Dr Med Sci from the University of Athens, a PhD and a DSc from the University of Manchester. He has published 230 papers, 50 book chapters, and edited 12 books and is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the Institute of Physics (UK).
Padhraig Fleming is Professor, Consultant and Postgraduate Training Lead in Orthodontics at the Institute of Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. Padhraig also works in private practice on a part-time basis. He studied Dentistry in Trinity College Dublin graduating with a Gold Medal and First Class Honours undertaking postgraduate and Consultant training in Orthodontics at the Royal London. He was awarded his MSc. with Distinction in 2007, the Membership in Orthodontics and British Orthodontic Society Medal in 2008, FDS (Orth.) from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2010 and his PhD in 2013.
He is an Associate Editor of American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, British Dental Journal, Journal of Dentistry and Progress in Orthodontics and is on the editorial board of numerous other journals. He has published over 140 peer-reviewed papers and has received numerous research awards including the Chapman Prize from the British Orthodontic Society and the B.F. and Helen E. Dewel Award from the American Association of Orthodontists. He has co-authored three successful orthodontic textbooks: 'Clinical Cases in Orthodontics', 'Functional Appliances: Theory and Practice' and in 2019 'Fixed Orthodontic Appliances: A practical guide'
Dr. Lorenzo Franchi received his dental education at the Dental School of the University of Florence, Italy. He completed his PhD in Preventive Orthodontics at the Department of Orthodontics of the University of Florence in 1997. Dr. Franchi is presently Associate Professor and Dean of the School of Dentistry at the University of Florence, Italy, and “Thomas M. Graber Visiting Scholar”, Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, U.S. He has published extensively in the international literature and he has lectured at international meetings and symposia. He is currently member of the Editorial Board of the Angle Orthodontist and Associate Editor of the European Journal of Orthodontics
Dr. Sunil Kapila is Professor and Eugene E. West Endowed Chair of Orthodontics at University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He previously served as the Thomas M. and Doris Graber Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan. He obtained his dental degree at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, an MS in orthodontics at University of Oklahoma as a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar, and a PhD in Oral Biology from UCSF.
Dr. Kapila is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He has received several research and clinical awards including the American Association for Dental Research’s Hatton Award, the American Association of Orthodontist’s (AAO) Milo Hellman Award, and the B.F. Dewel Honorary Research Award from the AAO Foundation. He has also been recognized for his contributions to orthodontics as the 2013 AAO Jacob A. Salzmann Lecturer. Dr. Kapila’s NIH-funded research focuses on the hormonal basis for TMJ degeneration and periodontal bone biology. Besides authoring numerous manuscripts and chapters, he has published two textbooks “Current Therapy in Orthodontics” and “Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Orthodontics.”
Professor Rosalia Leonardi is a Full Professor, Dean of the School of Dentistry, Head of the Orthodontic post-graduate programme and Chair of the Division of Orthodontics at the University of Catania, Italy. She graduated in Dentistry in 1985 and she received the degree of Specialist in Orthodontics in 1992.
Since 1986 she has been involved in research, teaching and clinics at the University of Catania. She has been visiting professor at the University of Helsinki, Finland and at the University of Kentucky, USA. She is a member of SIDO, EOS (European Orthodontic Society), AAO (American Association of Orthodontists) and WFO (World Federation of Orthodontics). She has authored textbooks and more than 200 publications (currently her scores are: HI 29 and 2,500 citations). She is an Editorial Board Member of Angle Orthodontist Journal and she is peer reviewer of EJO and AJODO.
Her research and clinical interests include orthodontics, temporomandibular joint diseases, the biology of tooth movement, craniofacial development and 3D orthodontics. She earned grants as principal investigator of international research projects on craniofacial development and orthodontic e-learning. Additionally, she is involved search projects on artificial intelligence (AI) applications in orthodontics and 3D orthodontics.
After earning a the degree in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics from the University of Palermo in 2004, Dr Lombardo specialized in orthodontics at the University of Ferrara in 2007. He continued there as a research fellow until 2011 and has been an Adjunct Professor since 2010. Since 2012, he has been a Researcher at Ferrara University and member of the European Board of Orthodontics. He is an Associate Professor in Ferrara University since 2019. He is the author of journal publications and a speaker at national and international conferences. He served as President of the Italian Association of Specialists in Orthodontics and President of the Italian Association of Lingual Orthodontics (2013-2016). He is a member of SIDO, AIDOR, WSLO. He is the elected President 2018 of the Italian Academy of Orthodontics.
Professor Keiji Moriyama graduated from School of Dentistry, Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) in Japan in 1986, and completed his PhD degree and orthodontic program at TMDU in 1990. He pursued his bone cell biology research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, USA from 1992 to 1994. He was appointed as Professor and Chairman, Department of Orthodontics, The University of Tokushima in Japan from 1998 to 2007, then has been serving as Professor and Chairman, Section of Maxillofacial Orthognathics in TMDU from 2007 to present. He served as Dean of the Dental School, Tokyo Medical and Dental University from 2014 to 2017.
Professor Moriyama is an Executive Committee Member of the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO), and the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society (APOS) and serves as President of the Japanese Orthodontic Society (JOS). His main research interests are 1) orthodontic and orthognathic treatment for the patients complexed with congenital anomalies or jaw deformities, 2) Bone remodeling during craniofacial growth and development under physiological and pathological conditions.
Dr. David Normando is Professor in Orthodontics, Federal University of Pará, Brazil. He is Editor Emeritus of the Dental Press Journal of Orthodontics and a member of the Brazilian Association of Orthodontist. He has been active in orthodontic research in the area of the etiology of dental malocclusion, esthetics, clinical research and biostatistics. He graduated from the School of Dentistry, Federal University of Pará, Brazil, and completed his Orthodontic residency and Master at the University of São Paulo (HRAC) and Ph.D from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has authored with his colleagues more than 100 scientific papers and 10 book chapters.
Dr Nikolaos Pandis is an Associate Professor in the Orthodontic Department at University of Bern, Switzerland and a tutor for the MS program in clinical trials at The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK.
He completed his degree in dental surgery at the University of Athens and his orthodontic speciality certificate and a Master of Science (MSc) at The Ohio State University, USA. He received a fellowship in craniofacial orthodontics at the University of Texas, USA and a MSc degree in clinical trails from LSHTM, UK. Dr Pandis completed his PhD in Epidemiology from University of Ioannina, Greece.
Letizia Perillo is full Professor and Dean of the School of Dentistry, Chairman of the NEBEOP Postgraduate Orthodontic Program, Head of the Orthodontic Division at Multidisciplinary Department of Medical-Surgical and Dental Specialties, University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Naples. She is 2018-2020 Visiting Professor at University of Alexandria, Egypt, 2021 Elected President of the Italian Society of Orthodontics (SIDO), 2022 Elected President of the Mediterranean Orthodontic Integration Project (MOIP), 2018-2020 International Ambassador of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) for SIDO, Member of the WFO, AAO, EHASO, EOS, SIDO and CH Tweed Foundation (clinical instructor), and member of the Editorial Board of several orthodontic and dental journals.
Prof Perillo graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1986 and specialized in Orthodontics in 1989 at the University of Naples Federico II. She completed her orthodontic training with a postgraduate fellowship at the University of Michigan in 1993 and a PhD in Interceptive Orthodontics at the University of Florence in 1997. She is author and co-author of several scientific publications, 9 books and 10 chapters of books, speaker at national and international courses and congresses. Her main research topics are early treatment, non-extraction treatment, cleft lip and palate, dentofacial orthopedics and genetics.
She is married to a dentist, Sergio Nucci, and has two beautiful daughters, Ludovica and Lorenza and a lovely dog, Candy. Her hobbies are cooking, painting and gardening.
